Scan'n Cut - Machine Maintenance

Scan'n Cut - Machine Maintenance

Have you suddenly got a strange black streak or line down your image when scanning?  Chances are your scanner glass needs a bit of a clean.

Although a Scan’n Cut is actually a fairly low maintenance machine, there are still a few things you can do to help keep it clean and free of any lint or fibres.

The most important of these is keeping your scanner glass clean.   Ensure that your machine is off and unplugged and your operation panel at the top is laying flat against the machine.

Turn your machine over and lay it carefully upside down on a table.  You will see the scanner tab and bar/cover along the centre.  Press in the tab at one end and gently lift the scanner cover out of the machine.

Using a damp (water only) lint-free cloth, wipe the scanner glass, now visible inside the machine where the cover was.  Using a dry lint-free cloth, dry this glass off and maybe a little time in the air will also help ensure it completely dries. (Avoid leaving it open for too long though to ensure dust doesn’t end up subsequently finding its way in there.)

Gently lower the cover back into the slot, tab first.  Turn your machine back over and perform a test scan to see if it has cleaned up perfectly.

I also try to keep my machine free of dust by using non-alcoholic baby wipes and giving all of the visible exterior of the machine a wipe over occasionally.  Try not to ever touch the blade carriage or the feed roller with wipes.  A good blow of air can help to just loosen any dust in these areas and ensure they are kept in good working order.

While this is the only actual physical maintenance you need to do to keep your machine clean, there are a few other functions available in the manual that can help you with such problems as adjustments required to the screen etc.  Or join me for one of my classes where I will be happy to work through any other machine problems you are having.

Let me know if you have any more tips or tricks in this area.  I would love to hear from you.  Good luck and happy creating!
